Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, commonly called ADHD, is a disorder that affects approximately 7% of the population. ADHD first appears in childhood, usually before the age of 7. ADHD is characterized by difficulty initiating and maintaining attention as well as hyperactivity and impulsivity. Most children display some level of these symptoms, which makes an accurate diagnosis difficult yet essential. Improper diagnosis can lead to ineffective and, occasionally, harmful treatments.

We use a battery of tests that allow for the most complete picture possible. We look for specific AHDA symptoms as well as disorders that are frequently mistaken for ADHD. For children, some of the assessment will be based on a parent’s or teacher’s observations. We also evaluate each individual by performing an IQ test a computerized performance test.

ADHD is a common disorder that can be treated successfully. Let the team at Strongsville Family Counseling help determine if you or your child has ADHD.
